dc:description The sid namespace facilitates the identification of collections of information assets. A collection of information assets could be an organization, a website, a publisher, or a database. Identifiers in the sid namespace consist of two parts. The first part is an Internet domain name, subdomain name, or host name that is associated with the collection. This ensures uniqueness of identifiers. The second, optional, part of an identifier of the sid namespace is a string that may provide further details about the nature of the collection. The sid namespace was created to accommodate needs in the NISO Z39-88-2004 Standard "The OpenURL Framework for Context-Sensitive Services".

The "info" URI Registry Prototype is currently managed by the OCLC Office of Research on behalf of NISO.
